Academy Awards Best and Best

What a fantastic, star studded evening! I was happy to be watching the Academy Awards in my jammies with a bowl of Girl Scout Cookie ice cream. : ) I even convinced my husband to put my son to bed with the justification that this is like Super Bowl Sunday for me.

When given the choice between hearing good news or bad news first, I always choose the latter because I like to end on a happy note. So let's just get this first award over with.

Most Disappointing- Jennifer Lawrence

Red Dior dress, peplum waistline, 1980's mom hair. It's all been done before and I have grown to expect more from J. Law, especially because of her gown last year.

And on to the awards!

Most Age Appropriate- Glenn Close

Glenn is the epitome of aging gracefully and she looked beautiful in this black Zac Posen gown. She is on trend with the geometric embroidery in the bodice of her dress and when on stage presenting her make up was radiant and her oversized diamond studs sparkled.

Most Visionary- Lupita Nyong'o

My 2006 high school prom is about as close to the Academy Awards as I will ever get. When shopping for dresses  and accessories I would spend hours making sure the pieces were perfect and captured my vision. Lupita and I would make magic together. She was the most visionary of the night in her couture Prada gown which was, "Inspired by champagne bubbles." Styled perfectly with little gold bar earrings and an inspiring speech to boot she was a close second for best dressed.

Best Dressed Date- Suki Waterhouse

There's one every year- Arm candy to a movie star dressed so impeccably that they borrow the spotlight from their nominee beau and leave those of us watching at home asking- Who's that girl? It's not the first time Bradley and Suki have been seen canoodling this awards season and it's hard to compete with a model.

The Dress I Would Most Like to Borrow- Cate Blanchett

Keeping on the nude trend Cate dazzled in this Armani gown and snow drop earrings. I would have liked to finish her look with a peach blush and lip which kept her from being the best dressed. I may be a tad overdressed for our typical dinner and a movie date night, but if I could borrow this dress I would find a place to wear it. A conservative cap sleeve, princess silhouette drenched in sparkles?! Who could resist.

Best Styling- Oliva Wilde

Is there anything this woman doesn't look good in? Her Versace dress perfectly cradled her growing bump, and it was the effortless hair, subtle cat eye, Lorraine Schwartz drop earrings and Jimmy Choo clutch that took this look to the next level, making Olivia, quite possibly, the best dressed mama to be ever.

The music is starting and the Academy is telling me to wrap it up. But no fashion awards ceremony is complete without this final award: Best Dressed. The Academy Awards are the time for our favorite movie starts to put their best foot forward- and most of the time they do. Gorgeous dresses, flawless make up, and impeccable styling are all part of the fashion at the Oscars, but only a select few have all three. And this year that award goes to

Kate Hudson in Versace. Her old Hollywood glamour with the side swept hair, fresh make up, plunging neckline sans adornment, and the outerwear that has all of us all saying, "I think I need a cape." All of these elements made up the perfect ensemble.

Fall Favorites Move Into Spring

While the rest of the country continues to bundle up for the polar vortex, those of us in warmer climates are counting down the days until we can appropriately wear open toed sandals. (March 1st for those of you keeping track). To help you get the most out of your winter wear and transition into spring, I've put together four looks using the top trends from fall incorporated into your spring wardrobe.

Cobalt blue was one of fall's hottest color and a similar color will be sticking around for spring, with a new name: Dazzling blue. Wear this blue peplum dress now layered with a button down shirt and patterned tights. Incorporate it into your spring wardrobe by pairing with bright color open toed shoes and a light colored handbag.

Leather was a favorite look on all the fall runways and quickly made its way into our wardrobes as a favorite. Wear your leather pants now with a sequin tartan print jacket and later by opting for a lighter, blush toned color palette.

Floral patterns give a fresh look to any spring wardrobe. If you find a floral top you are dying to add to your collection, wear it now cozied up with a beanie and trench coat, and when spring comes, pair it with a graphic black and white skirt and wedges.

The sequin top became a festive favorite for Christmas and New Year's parties. Wear now with colored cords for a textured look. Embellishment and sequins will continue to be a stylish commodity for springs and was seen on the runway. Step into spring by pairing your sequined blouse with a floral midi skirt and canvas tote.
